This fireball hurtled through Earth’s atmosphere and landed in the waters of the Great Australian Bight late Tuesday night.
"Surf's up!"

The fires are horrifying. Millions of acres burned, thousands of buildings and businesses gutted at least 18 people dead, many millions of critters killed, some of which will become extinct. There's also the horrible smoke. People can't get away from it. Smoke alarms in buildings in Sydney are going off.

And they say there are a few months of Summer left to go? Just how bloody long are your summers?!

Nobby, it is Armageddon here. The size of these fires means they will likely continue through to next winter. We are safe here at the moment, and it's hard not to be complacent. But it can change any minute. Today is quite cool, and we've had 7mm of rain, but this is the driest that I've ever seen this place, and we are normally lush green farmland. Our government has been selling water rites to the highest bidders for years, now the rivers run dry... but the cotton is fantastic! They sell our land to anyone that wants to fuck it/mine it, they blame climate change on environmentalists.
And the morons chant this murdoch mantra.
Still, at least we're not at war. Yet.

It seems to depend on your location. You're in the Melbourne area?

Doesn't help that you have a Trumpian PM.

"(Australian PM Scott) Morrison, an evangelical Christian and a vocal supporter of President Trump, finds himself aligned with the U.S. leader on support for the coal industry. Australia is one of the largest coal producers on earth, with the industry supplying roughly 50,000 jobs but disproportionately responsible for greenhouse gas emissions."

We are 30km east of Melbourne. No fires here at the moment, but the smoke is pretty awful. Mind you it's reaching New Zealand too, apparently.
morrison is arguably worse than trump. I'm pretty sure he's a big trump fan. Our Government has completely fucked us over.

I'm not sure if it's possible for you to watch Shaun Micalef's "Mad as Hell!" but it's the best way to understand the shit that happens here.
