Well, it's gone....

Post by John Eppstein »

It's gone. The first thing that I've woken up to for nearly 10 years, my "morning paper".....

Time rolls on, but I do miss it, despite the steady decline of the last couple years. I'm currently a regular on 3 other forums, but there's nothing like The Womb..... Probably never will be again.

Everything that made the Womb special started in a real-life studio somewhere. That's where the experience came from. Without that, we'd all be postulating about what our records might sound like if we ever got off the internet and made them.

My fear is that recording has become so internet-centric that all the engineers, builders, tinkerers, creators, and makers of things will just gravitate towards other industries. The Womb was a place for a kind of real-world thinking to leak out into the web. In 2017, when someone hears the therm "producer/musician", they think about someone sitting in front of a computer with a guitar and headphones on. That ain't it.

If you think the term "producer/musician" conjures a mental image of someone holding an actual instrument for the average person, then you might be more optimistic than I am.

As you may know, you can access some of the threads of Thewombforums using archive.org.
Does anybody know how to set up a search there except manually going through all of the pages? Is it even possible? I want to find a particular thread, but no luck so far...
