Re: MMRS Gone Forever?

Hey, so all the episodes are actually still online on Mixerman's site! :yep: :yep: :yep: Hey Tim, All of the Mixerman Radio Shows are archived here: https://mixerman.net/mixerman-radio-show/ I don’t have a menu item for it on the website because they are so old. But you can share that link anywhere ...

Dunno, well, I have to experiment with layouts, maybe I can have separate layouts ...

Re: MMRS Gone Forever?

I checked, and I do have probably all the missives and shows, the question is how do I put them online? They're more than a Gb total.
My dropbox and other cloud accounts are full. I could probably upload them on Youtube. I guess I have to first contact Slipperman and Mixerman to get their approval.

Re: CLAMixHub

You use REAPER, right? I don't see how it is better than fx track control knobs, especially as they aren't limited to 8 tracks at a time and you aren't limited to Waves plugs.. For other DAWs I could see it being a workflow enhancer. You've got a point, although I don't think it is possible (at lea...

Have you tried it? I think it's neat. Gotta play with it a bit more before deciding if it really improves the workflow, though.

Re: Use of noise in a mix

I think slight noise can act sort of like a "reference plane" for the ears. In isolating headphones when there is no noise it's a weird feeling when the music hits kind of out of nowhere. Also, I played with adding a bit of pink noise to the loud section of the song, seemed to give it some...

Stairwell impulses

I work in a building with a stairwell which has a nice reverberation to it. The building is seven stories high, the stairs are covered with tiles and the walls are concrete with a thick plaster pain over them. I had a feeling it could make a nice echo chamber. Unfortunately, I don't have a recording...

Re: Black Friday deals

DevilLoc is great when you want something to be blatantly smashed sounding. I wouldn’t use it for ‘subtle’ compression. It’s intentionally very NOTICEABLE. I agree, but I always just blend in a little of the effect with the dry sound. That way it helps to push certain things to the front of the mix.

Re: Black Friday deals

Is there something that it does specifically that you can't get from other fx or is it just a faster way for you to work? Dunno, probably the latter. Typically I use it on vocals and drums when they're kind of bland. Always at the lowest settings, and often just blending in a tiny bit of effect. I ...

Re: How hard core is too hard core?

I think people usually don't focus on whether the pitch is out a cent or two on short duration notes because they're listening to the music and not focusing intently on the pitch. Yes, it may be. OTOH pitch sensitivity can be trained to a large extent. When I just started to play guitar, my friend ...

I have no idea, but I wonder how is it possible that v3 uses too much power? If it's really "too much" it should get hot.

Re: How hard core is too hard core?

The music you listen to forms the expectation of what is right/wrong. If people hear only vocals which are corrected to perfect pitch all the time, they would expect this perfect pitch everywhere. It's a pity, as it diminishes vocal expression, but that's the way it is... Same (or worse) with drumme...

Great! Now, as far as old tech, I still have a sh*tload of cassettes. I wonder, maybe one day I should pick up an old Hi-Fi tape desk, I bet they are dirt cheap on ebay. Surely the sonics still would be what can you get from 1/8". But that old top-level cassette desks looked so nice! And they w...

It seems to me that a big problem with digital is just how messy it is. I've been trying to figure this stuff out for a while, but I really have no idea just what's going on. Even when I probably do, I feel like I really don't, and that messes with my mind. I wish things were more standardized to w...

Re: True Peaks

There are plenty of plugins offering intersample peak control.
Personally, I have PSP Xenon on the master output. I don't drive into it, so I usually have no gain reduction happening, but it's there for dither and catching of occasional intersample peaks.

I'm on Reaper. Explore JS plugins! I believe there's one called Stereo Enhancement which can do width control. Later today I will look for relevant JS plugins. But REAPER already has width control right there on the track panel! Boz even made a plugin to replicate it because he got fed up of other ...
