Re: Music Database

When I'm doing something gridlocked I usually imagine the song for a minute and then do tap tempo with a hotkey for eight bars or so, without looking at the BPM readout. I do something similar which is to play it first on guitar or keyboard and let the tempo reveal itself. To be 120 BPM. It o...

Re: Music Database

So you fall into the new default bpm trap? I see tempo as right or wrong for the song. Never occurred to me that it could be viewed as a trap. The tempo seems to be governed by sometimes seemingly opposing "interest groups". Too slow, people don't want to dance to it. Too fast, people can'...

I was looking for tempos of songs and ran across this. Have you ever recorded a song at a particular tempo, listened to it later and panicked because you perceived it as too slow, then listened to it another day and it's the perfect tempo? See what other people are getting away with  https:...

Re: Stairwell impulses

That's pretty amazing. We were already getting a taste of things to come about 13 years ago. Remember Native Instruments B4 II? Moving the virtual mic closer and further from the Leslie to get less or more room sound? Yeah, that was primitive compared to this. Now it's gotten so sophisticated that w...

So, to dumb it down, you either get a degree in engineering or you go to a reverb plugin and click the preset that says "Ratville Community Hospital South Stairwell". There should be a knob that lets you adjust how open the door to the basement is. I like to keep it full open so I can get ...

Re: Stairwell impulses

In America that would probably cause people to run for cover and call the police. And that's the positive outcome... I live in NY where most people don't carry guns. I guess in Florida that could start a shootout in which everyone stands his ground and everyone thinks everyone else is the bad guy. ...

Re: When A Band's References Don't Fit...

From the verbal description it sounds like what the band needs, and what you could provide for them, is an arranger and producer. They seem like tree surgeons unable to get an overview of the forest who need a forest ranger to tell them to evacuate ahead of the fire. The question is: Would they be o...

Total clusterfuck, no setup time so there was crazy bleed to deal with from not being ale to move players around, cables everywhere in a tiny room Substitute "French mansion" for "tiny room" and I think you've described the initial recording of "Beggar's Banquet". The ...
