Re: New project studio

Ah - tape flavour! I like the workflow and the physical storage. And I, uh, think it sounds more musical with minimum effort, which is good for sketching things out. Don't beat me up too hard :uhoh: Tools. Just tools. Whatever floats the boat and gets the ideas across. :drinks: It boils down to WHY...

Re: Bass guitars and poweramps

1st choice now is a vintage Ampeg B-15. Now that being said, for most of the stuff I do here, I love a slightly saturated sound on bass, but that doesn't necessarily mean it requires a lot of power. I can get a great sound out of my Ampeg B-15's and or a vintage Fender Bassman for that matter. I us...

Re: Tape? Dictaphone!

I'd always heard that the "Street Fighting Man" tone came from an acoustic guitar into a cheap Sony dictation recorder, overloading the ALC (automatic level control) circuit, not a Dictaphone (totally different beast) and not at a recording session.

Re: Get er done !

As opposed to not letting making music interfere with endleswsly playing with gear..... :yowza: :hp: Playing with gear is too hard though. You have to get up and plug stuff in. Nightmare! I'd rather sit in my desk chair, input some "note data", and mess around with plugins in an attempt t...

Business? There is no business in Fairfield, CA. Dead spot of the universe. Not even a music bar.

Re: Hey, John

My arm is getting tired from administering a beat down on a troll on Bob's FB page. Care to go a couple of rounds? What's the a-hole's name? Will get on it tomorrow, it's a bit late now, considering that I've been drinking a bit and taking painkillers to try to get sleep in spite of the pain...

Re: Get er done !

Well I do find that preamps sound different and that, given the choice, I would choose a particular preamp model over another for sonic reasons. Using different preamps for different things? No - except I must admit I have a really cheap preamp that messes up DI electric bass in a nice way. But tha...

Re: Get er done !

Since I had some down time the other day, I decided to test a few preamps in my place just to confirm what I already believe is true. My thoughts for the last ten years or so have been that the different mic preamp thing has been really blown out of proportion. So that being said. I played a guitar...

Well, it's gone....

It's gone. The first thing that I've woken up to for nearly 10 years, my "morning paper".....

Time rolls on, but I do miss it, despite the steady decline of the last couple years. I'm currently a regular on 3 other forums, but there's nothing like The Womb..... Probably never will be again.
