Re: corona virus

Marked unsafe here in the Death Zone. 76,030 cases and 1,552 dead in my state, most of them within about 70 miles of here as of 11:24 AM 1st April 2020. And they say we're just getting warmed up with things peaking around the middle of the month. The state requested 85 refrigerated trailers from FE...

Well, the peaches continue to ripen. We shall see if the preserves come out OK or if the fruit turns out to be rotten.

Idiots vs crooks.

Democrats are idiots who couldn't organize a coherent resistance to save their - or their country's - lives

Republicans are crooks and traitors, who are NEARLY as inept as the Democrats.

"Nearly" is a problem.

So tired of this.

Re: Coincidence?

I thought scandals with Trump are pretty much permanent? Well, you do have a point - he exists in a permanent state of scandal, but sometimes it rises to the point where he tries to divert attention. It seems to work with some people, for varying amounts of time. Doesn't seem to be this time though...

Coincidence?

This is probably going to seem a little nutty, even for me, but it keeps running through my (perhaps slightly paranoid) mind - First, understand that I don't like "coincidences", especially when they keep occurring, over and over. Has anybody besides me noticed that every time (well, maybe...

Re: Andrew Yang

I can't see how tariffs could bring jobs back. Sending the work abroad only delayed automation. As that begins, shipping becomes the greatest expense which will lead to local assembly becoming SOP. A few new jobs would be created but nothing that would stop the bleeding. The elephant in the womb is...

At least Yang is trying to address the problem rather than regurgitating up more "progressive" talking points. My problem with his "Universal Basic Income" is that real estate interests will most likely gobble that money right up leaving us right back where we started. Bingo. So...

Re: Andrew Yang

And when they "reclaim the VAT" how much of that gets kicked back to the customer, who actually paid for it? I would guess ZERO. "Trickle down" economics doesn't work. Companies treat such kickbacks as a windfall and use it for their own purposes - it never gets back to the cust...

Re: Andrew Yang

Prop 13 is a California law. John is in California. (I'm trying to clarify this for the non-Americans) What John is describing can be thought of as a "water mattress effect" -- If revenues go down in one place they have to rise in another unless you cut services. So California's state sal...

Re: Andrew Yang

So does VAT. You don't think those middlemen who have to pay VAT at each level of distribution don't pass the expense on? That's like Rump claiming that tariffs aren't ultimately paid by the US consumer. Or that Mexico will pay for "The Wall". In fact, it's the same damn thing except for ...

With sales tax there are no stages of hidden tax before the retail stage. You don't pay sales tax when you buy wholesale to resell. Yep, and I'd write equipment costs off on my taxes. But the drastic sales tax increases usually proposed by libertarians and conservatives would create a large black m...

It‘s made from neodymium. BINGO! (Neodymium alloy, actually....) So how does the trick work? The magnet and the tube create what's known as a "eddy current". This creates a force against the magnet causing it to drop slowly. But you didn't say anything about a magnet. The way to do it wit...

Re: RIP Aspen Pittman

OK, the pipe is standard copper water pipe of the sort that is slightly oversize so it can be used to splice regular copper water pipe. I'm pretty sure there's no such thing. There is a coupling you can use to join pipes by soldering, and there are compression fittings for joining pipes without sol...
